Goal: Bring positive visibility to autistic trans people and highlight the discrimination and violence they face in the wake of the murder of Kayden ClarkeGRAPHIC 1 Nothing About Us ASAN NCTE TF v4

Strategy: Launch a joint initiative with a policy guide and advocacy resources for trans autistic people and their allies leveraging the resources and expertise of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN), National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), and National LGBTQ Task Force

Success: Brought national attention to how police violence and discrimination adversely people who are both autistic and transgender, and promoted positive visibility of trans autistic people

Tactics:

  • Leveraged media attention on Kayden Clarke’s murder to get news coverage of trans autistic pride campaign
  • Hosted a Twitter Chat with key influencers in the trans and autistic communities
  • Wrote sample tweets and Facebook posts for launch
  • Created graphics co-branded for all three organizations
  • Edited guest blog by influencer Lydia X.Z. Brown, JD of @AutisticHoya
  • Ongoing social media and media relations for campaign, including November placement in The Atlantic’s “The Link Between Autism and Trans Identity”
